Fly private jet charter to Ocho Rios, a town located in the Saint Ann parish of on Jamaica’s northern coast. Translating to “Eight Rivers” in Spanish, the name given by the British is a bit of a misnomer, since you won’t find eight rivers in the area.

What originated as a small fishing village now caters to high-end tourists, serving as a port of call for major cruise ships as well as for cargo ships transporting sugar and limestone. Just outside the city, visitors can check out Columbus Park, where Christopher Columbus (supposedly) first made landfall, and home to a variety of maritime relics and Spanish colonial buildings.

Ocho Rios offers a variety of restaurants and nightclubs, and there’s also Dolphin Cove, a popular attraction where you can swim with our favorite aquatic mammals. Scuba diving and other water sports are also offered around the town.

Another major destination is Fern Gully, the result of an earthquake in 1907 that destroyed one of the area’s river beds. It stretches nearly 3 miles along Fern Gully Highway, and features over 540 variety of ferns. Other notable attractions include James Bond Beach, Shaw Park Botanical Gardens and the Coyaba River Garden and Museum.

Ocho Rios most notable claim to fame was its use as the setting for the very first James Bond film, Dr. No, in 1962. 

In the film, it served as the home of Miss Taro, an ally to villain Dr. Julius No and adversary of James Bond. The creator of the series, Ian Fleming, was a British Intelligence officer, then newspaper writer, and finally, world-renowned spy novelist, spending his winters in Ocho Rios creating more than a dozen novels and short stories for the James Bond Agent 007 series.

Legendary works including Live and Let Die, The Man With the Golden Gun and the short story Octopussy are set in Jamaica, and the films for these stories were partly or mostly shot here as well. You can visit Fleming’s residence by staying at Goldeneye, a five-star resort along Oracabessa Bay.

When the airport re-opened as (OCJ) Ian Fleming International, Jimmy Buffet was processed by customs and immigration officers as the airports first international passenger, flying in a single-engine Pilatus PC-12 turboprop from the Bahamas.
